I bought my sewing machine a number of years ago at one of those Sewing Machine Wholesale sales they sometimes have at hotels. They're overstock machines they typically sell to schools. I was skeptical at first, but it has been a great basic model and has saved me hundreds and hundreds of dollars over the years.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a professional seamstress. In fact, I can't even read a sewing pattern. My mom tried to teach me how to sew as a child, but she was a lefty (I'm a righty) and her machine was old and incredibly fussy. Needless to say, I lost interest quickly.
However, once my husband and I had our own home, I started pricing out home decor items. I knew I could do projects for a fraction of the cost. And I have. Over the years, I've sewn curtains, roman blinds, costumes, pillows, wine bags, gifts, and the list goes on and on. The satisfaction of making something yourself and saving money at the same time is priceless. It's also something I look forward to passing on to our kids.
Recently I used some pillow forms I already had and made some new accent pillows for our bed. I bought sale and clearance material at JoAnn's (I always use coupons when I can). I was pleased with the punch of color. What do you think?
