Frugal Decorating: Custom Window Treatments

Do-It-Yourself is a great option for saving money on apparel, gifts, decorating and remodeling. Today's DIY Project is Custom Window Treatments on a budget.

We moved in August and are still trying to get settled. The most exciting part for me is the decorating. You might be seeing dollar signs, but I see new opportunities to save money. I can still apply all my frugal money saving techniques to decorating and remodeling.

This past week I finished my first project - Custom window treatments and shades for our Family Room. The final project only cost about $125. Here are the details:

•If you've ever shopped for Curtains, you know the price can be sky high. Try Shower Curtains instead of expensive Curtain Panels. I loved the pattern on these panels. Each Shower Curtain was only $20 at Target. I bought some corresponding fabric at Hobby Lobby to add to the bottom so they curtains would be full length ($13) . I love the results!

•Blinds can be very pricey, but I got these gorgeous Bamboo blinds for a steal at JC Penney. They normally cost $50 each. They were on sale and I used a coupon. Final price was $20 each!

•I also opted for Cafe Curtain Rods instead of a long Curtain Rod, which can be anywhere from $30-$50. I bought each Cafe Curtain Rod for $10 and then used inexpensive Shower Curtain Hooks.
