Retail Bootcamp: Save Money on Halloween Costumes
Retail Bootcamp is a series that will teach you step-by-step basics to saving money on Retail for yourself, home, gifts, holidays, etc...
If your kids are younger, you have more opportunity to choose their costumes for Halloween. As they grow older and get more vocal about what they want to wear, it can be more challenging. However, there's still plenty of time and ways to save a lot of money on Halloween Costumes. Here are some of my favorite frugal strategies:
- Costume Exchange - Ask friends and family if they'd be willing to trade and borrow costumes. Make sure you write your name in your costume to ensure it returns.
- Consignment Sales & Garage Sales - This is my favorite tip. I buy high quality costumes for a fraction of the cost. Our kids use them as dress up clothes all year long!
- Stack Sales & Coupons - Watch for coupons at some of your favorite stores and stack them with sales to save even more money. Check out our Retail Round Up.
- Make Your Own - We always had some much fun being creative making our own costumes when we were kids. Use coupons and sales to buy all your supplies and accessories. Print several copies of the coupon and pay with separate transactions to save the most money.
- Shop After Holiday Sales - You can get some incredible deals for the following year if you shop the day of Halloween or right after. Discounts can be anywhere from 50% - 90% off. Stock up on decorations and party supplies, too.
CHALLENGE
Challenge your older kids to see who can save the most money on their costume this year. Start them off with frugal cost saving skills that will last a lifetime!
