DIY: Save Money on Decorating by Re-Purposing
In 2012, we're going to continuing researching ways to save money on all things Retail related, but also on Decorating, Remodeling and Holidays in our DIY series.
Paying full blown retail for furniture is daunting. It can be hard to find good deals or discounts from Retailers (although don't be afraid to negotiate). Personally, I like more of an eclectic look rather than matching furniture, so Re-purposing furniture is a great solution.
Re-purposing is a creative way to decorate your home while saving money. Typically, all is needed is paint and a little elbow grease. Personally, I've re-purposed dozens of items. I thought I would share some pieces in our home. It's saved us hundreds of dollars!
This dresser was a handed down to my husband. Over the years, it's been several different colors. I painted it using a faux comb (you can get one from the paint section at your local craft store) and tape. When our kids were babies, I attached a changing pad and cover to the top. It worked perfectly for a changing table! At some point I might consider repainting it, but for now, I love the look!
I got this stool at an antique store for about $10 many, many years ago. I had fun giving it a Mary Engelbreit kind of look.
