DIY: Silk Tie Dyed Easter Eggs

Do-It-Yourself is a great option for saving money on apparel, gifts, decorating and remodeling. Today's DIY Project is Silk Tie Dyed Easter EggsYour Retail Helper

My mom saw this easy Easter Egg project and wanted to give it a try. It turned out fabulous! You'll need old 100% silk ties for this project, as well as uncooked eggs and thread. My mom bought some ties for 50¢ a piece at a local thrift store. They do need to be 100% silk.

We cut the ties into small rectangular shapes, big enough to wrap around an egg. Then we used thread to wrap the egg. Make sure it's snug so as much of the fabric is touching the egg as possible. We broke a few of the eggs in the process, so you will need to be careful.

Next we boiled the eggs as you would normally do. Once they were done and cooled, we unwrapped the eggs. And voila! What a neat project. You can polish the eggs with a little olive oil to make them shine.

You won't be able to use the same material again, but if you're judicious with cutting you're material, you should get plenty of use out of a single tie. Also, when picking ties, think about the designs that would transfer to the egg. The most vibrant colors and designs worked the best.

This may not be the ideal project for little kids, since you have to wrap the eggs before they're cooked, but they'll definitely make an impact in their basket.
