Save Money When Moving: Organize & Purge
Retail Bootcamp is a series that will teach you step-by-step basics to saving money on Retail for yourself, home, gifts, holidays, etc...
I'm passing along what I've learned from our move last Summer. Here are some more practical and easy ways you can Save Money When Moving.
Tip #3 - Organize & Purge
- Label boxes with index cards. I took Neon Index Cards (BTW, I bought them at rock bottom with coupons) and labeled each box with the room and the contents. Each room had a different color. This helped tremendously when others were helping us move. They knew immediately where each box belonged.
- Pay someone to pack you. I talked to someone who actually hired someone from Craigslist to pack them. Time is money. If you're short on time, than this might be a terrific alternative.
- Purge while packing. Designate a box for Garage Sale or Donate. There's no point in moving items you don't need.
- Sell items on Craigslist / Have a Garage Sale. We were able to sell some large items on Craigslist prior to moving. That money helped quite a bit with moving expenses.
