Pay It Forward Thursday - Swap for Good

Here's another great way to Pay It Forward!

Wanting to clean out your closet and looking for a new wardrobe? Consider hosting a Swap for Good party. Swap for Good is a non-profit project that encourages "people across the country to host clothing swaps as a way to raise critical funds for local domestic violence shelters."

Here's how it works. Have a home party and ask your friends to bring clothing items they no longer want or need. At the party, pass the hat and ask people to donate to a pre-determined local domestic violence shelter. (Swap for Good helps you locate one near you.) Then have your friends "shop" from each other's "closet".  It's a win-win. Your guests will leave with possibly hundreds of dollars in newer clothes and you'll raise money for an important cause.

Lesson Learned: Make sure to get the HOT DEALS as soon as they're available! On the positive side of things, I was still able to get my crayons for only 5¢ a box, received a $5 off $25 coupon on my receipt for Payless Shoe Source AND it can be an excellent opportunity to Pay It Forward!

Research says the average family spends over $600 on Back To School supplies. 

If you're frugalyou won't pay nearly that much! And, when you're able to get great deals like this Office Max purchase, you can give those supplies away to your local school, homeless / crisis center and food pantries. Ask your school what "extra's" you can give. Some children can't afford supplies at all. Help them feel well prepared by giving out of your abundance!

In the next several weeks, as you're picking up great deals on School Supplies for your own kids, consider picking up a few extra items to donate to kids and classrooms locally.

• Contact your School District and ask what items they need.
• Call a local shelter, church, crisis center or community service program and ask if they're taking donations.
• Or ask your Chamber of Commerce if they're working locally with any programs. 

Make it a family affair. As they kids are organizing their own supplies, have them choose what items they'd like to donate. It can be a wonderful teachable moment.
